Year 1 and year 2

Welcome to the Year 1 | 2 class page.

Marvellous Mexico is a Year 1 class and our class teacher is called Mrs Hall.

Kind Kenya is a Year 2 class and our class teacher is Mrs Langley.

PE

All children are required bring their PE kit in a bag where they will get changed at school. PE day is on Monday! When the weather starts to get colder, children are able to bring in black jogging bottoms and wear their school jumper. No logos on items of clothing please.

 Phonics

In KS1 we have daily phonics sessions where children will identify phonemes and the words which they appear in. This helps them to become fluent readers. We follow the Read Write inc phonics scheme. Once children are able to read fluently they will move on to whole class reading sessions. 

Assessment

In summer term Year 1 children will sit a national phonics screening assessment to determine children's reading abilities.  Year 2 children will sit some standardised test to assess whether they are age-related or above.
