Nature Zone & Outdoor Learning Area
When children come into contact with nature, they reveal their strength - Maria Montessori
In the heart of the school grounds, beyond the busy corridors and classrooms, lies a quiet space which will hopefully change the way students learn, relax, and connect with the environment. Known as our “Nature Zone,” we hope it will become an amazing space for our students to engage with education.
What makes the Nature Zone especially unique is how it began. Our very own Outdoor Learning lead - Mr. Wainman requested that an overgrown, neglected patch of land, filled with tangled weeds around our outdoor classroom which was rarely visited by students or staff be tidied up.
During an initial clean-up effort, staff and students made an unexpected discovery—a hidden pond buried beneath the dense vegetation. This discovery became the turning point, inspiring the school to transform the forgotten space into something meaningful.
With a successful application to the National Education Nature Park Program, its transformation has been initiated.
Looking ahead, there are plans to expand the nature zone and outdoor learning area further. Ideas include adding a vegetable patch, installing insect hotels, and creating more shaded seating areas. The goal is to continue developing a space that supports both learning and wellbeing.
From an overgrown patch of land to a vibrant natural sanctuary, the transformation of the nature zone is a testament to what can be achieved with curiosity, teamwork, and care for the environment. This outdoor space is a reminder of the positive impact nature can have on young minds.
We are now looking forward to more natural visitors to join our frogs, mice and pond shrimp, which have already been spotted.
